Kingdom and Divorce
Even before Roman occupation, rabbis had been softening the law on adultery for centuries. There was great debate among the rabbis on how to deal with such cases, And the easiest way to deal with such cases was simply to pretend they didn't exist and to lessen the grounds for divorce so that men with wandering eyes wouldn't have to be stoned to death.
